Technical Note 001 · v0.1 · 26 Jul 2026

Sound Performance and IPS Matrix v0.1.

Status: developing methodological tool; not a standard, certification, technical report or scientifically validated indicator.

Purpose

To organize the reading of an environment’s Sound Performance in relation to its specified intent. IPS means Sound Performance Index, not Sound Pressure Index.

Matrix inputs

Sound level and exposure time where applicable; context and activity; comfort and conversability; operations; relevant technical and legal requirements; and adherence to the project specification.

Operational states

Green: within the defined specification. Yellow: deviation requiring investigation and adjustment. Red: outside defined parameters or with possible non-compliance, requiring priority response and, where applicable, specialist assessment.

Limits

The states do not support commercial causal claims, such as a fixed reduction in length of stay for a given dB difference. WHO, ISO, standards and legislation are applied according to their scope; there is no universal table for every environment.
