The definitions below organize Maestro SP’s vocabulary. They do not replace technical standards, reports, licences or specialist work where the context requires them.
The discipline of intentional sound management in environments. It integrates listening, acoustics, volume, operations, comfort, perception and healthful conditions in service of people and the space itself.
The practice of understanding context, defining intended experience and guiding decisions about the sound layer with method rather than chance or improvisation.
The perceived quality of the sound environment and its relationship to experience, brand, audience, activity and moment of use.
The ability to converse comfortably in the appropriate context. It does not mean every environment must be quiet; it means interaction should be coherent with its proposition.
People’s perceived experience of an acoustic environment, considered in its context. It is an internationally established technical concept that informs the Sound Performance perspective.
The adequacy of sound experience for people, activity and length of stay. It may require technical, sensory and operational reading.
The group of sound elements that coexist in an environment: conversation, music, noise, reverberation, equipment, architecture and operations.
The routines, responsibilities, criteria and decisions that sustain sound experience while an environment is operating.
The ability to remain in an environment in a way that is coherent with the intended experience. It is a dimension of reading, not a promise of commercial outcome.
The reading of coherence and perceived quality in an environment. Sound participates in this perception alongside all other elements of experience.
